I look thinner but I weigh more

Q: I have been working out at the gym since the past 2 years. My weight has been more or less the same. Recently, my personal trainer has been making me do weight training and strength training. I have started losing in inches but my weight has increased by 2-3 kgs. I’m worried and can’t understand why my body is responding in this manner.

A: It’s normal to see an increase in weight when you start doing resistance training. It’s just the way the body responses to the exercises. Also, when you say that you are loosing inches but the weight goes up, that’s a clear indication that you are losing fat and gaining muscle… which is exactly what you want to do. Don’t concentrate so hard on how much you weigh, but rather on the body fat percentage.
